Q & A

Auto Insurance

How much auto insurance do I need?

Most states require you to carry a minimum amount of liability insurance and also provide proof of insurance to register a vehicle or renew your license. In the case of an accident, the minimum liability insurance required by the state may not be enough coverage to pay for the damages that result after an accident. In this case, the driver responsible for the accident may have to pay additional expenses out of pocket. To determine how much auto insurance you need, consider:

  • The value of your assets
  • How and when you drive
  • What you drive
  • Who is in the car with you

How much auto insurance does my state require?

To ensure everyone on the road is covered in case of an accident, most states require drivers to carry a minimum amount of liability insurance, or establish financial responsibility in some other way. Drivers must also have the ability to provide proof of insurance to register or renew a driver’s license. This is the case for cars, trucks, motorcycles and commercial vehicles. You may want to consult with your Moriarity Insurance agent and visit DMV Car Insurance by State to learn about your state’s unique requirements.

Home Insurance

What is a deductible?

A deductible is the amount you’re responsible for in the event of a covered loss. In most covered loss cases, you are responsible for any amounts up to your deductible level and your insurance would cover anything beyond that up to your coverage limit. For example, if you select a $1,000 deductible and have a $4,200 covered loss, you would receive a claim payment of $3,200 after deducting the $1,000.

A homeowners deductible applies to each claim. If you have more than one claim in a policy period, you will be responsible for the deductible amount for each individual claim regardless of the number of claims you have during that policy period.

Can you provide some tips for estimating the value of my home?

Here are some tips to help you estimate your home’s value:

Every year, take the time to check the value of your insurance policy against rising local building costs. Your Farmers agent is available to assist you with your review of your coverage.

  • Check the latest building codes in your community. If your home is severely damaged, you might have to rebuild it to comply with new building code standards which may require a change in design or building materials.
  • Do not insure your home for the market value. The cost of rebuilding your house may be higher (or lower) than the price you paid for it or the price you could sell it for today.
  • Some banks require you to buy homeowners insurance to cover the amount of your mortgage. Make sure it’s also enough to cover the cost of rebuilding.
  • Increase the limit of your policy if you make improvements or additions to your house. You may upgrade features in your home to fit your tastes and lifestyle. These enhancements can significantly increase the replacement cost of your home. Your Moriarity agent will be available to help you in your determination as to whether additional coverage is needed.
  • We also have a number on online tools to help you calculate your home insurance needs. If you have questions about the amount of insurance coverage for you, consult your local Moriarity agent.

Is my home covered if I rent it out using a home-sharing service like Airbnb?

Most of our Moriarity Agency homeowners polices don’t cover homes that are shared, including services like Airbnb. If you do share or plan on sharing your home through one of these services, you may qualify for an endorsement to extend your coverage. Claims

How do I report a loss?

We prefer you call or text our Moriarity agents at 303-798-3081 to decide if filing a claim is the best option and if it is, then actually file a claim with one of our agents.

How long will it take to handle my claim?

It depends on how complex the claim is, how serious the damages or injuries are, and how willing other involved parties are to cooperate. Farmers claims representatives always work toward prompt resolution of every claim. If a claim requires follow-up work, we’ll be there with you every step of the way – no matter how long it takes. And, if your claim has been concluded and additional damage or injuries are identified, we’ll reopen the claim and determine if your policy provides coverage for the additional expense.
